On May 17, 2017, a Panel of the Discipline Committee of the College of Optometrists of Ontario found Alvin John Metzger (a.k.a. John Metzger) guilty of professional misconduct and ordered the revocation of his certificate of registration, effective immediately.
Mr. Metzger practised optometry under the name of John Metzger at:

Effective immediately, Mr. Metzger is no longer permitted to:
- provide eye examinations
- prescribe and/or dispense eyeglasses and contact lenses
- provide any other service that would be considered the provision of optometric care
- use the title “optometrist” or “Doctor” and/or
- hold himself out as a person who is qualified to practise in Ontario as an optometrist
