Council Highlights – March 7, 2025

Council met on Friday, March 7, 2025, for a regularly scheduled meeting. During this meeting, Council approved seven motions that were brought forward by the Executive, Quality Assurance, Registration, and Governance/Human Resources committees. Read more below:

Executive

Council approved the following report from the Executive committee:

  • 2024 College Performance Measurement Framework (CPMF) Report

Quality Assurance

Council approved the following motions from the Quality Assurance committee:

  • Professional Advisory: Social Media
  • Updated Optometric Practice Reference (OPR) and its circulation for review for 60 days

Registration

Council approved the following motions from the Registration committee:

  • Member contribution funding to the OEBC for 2025
  • A loan to OEBC for maintaining robust and defensible entry-to-practice exam
  • Cessation of the National Board of Examiners in Optometry exam in 2025 for entry-to-practice. Candidates who have already registered for a part of the NBEO exam by March 7, 2025, be permitted to continue registering for the other parts of the NBEO exam and their NBEO exam scores would be recognized by the College.
  • Approval of the Diplomate of the American Academy of Optometry credential and the use of the following designation or its historical equivalence:
    • Dipl AAO

Governance/Human Resources

Council approved the following motions from the Governance/Human Resources committee:

  • Appointment of Dr. Abraham Yuen to the Governance/Human Resources committee
  • Appointment of Christine terSteege to the Discipline, Inquiries, Complaints and Reports. Fitness to Practise, Quality Assurance Special Projects, and Patient Relations Committees

During the meeting, the President recognized Lisa Holland for her service on Council as a public appointee. The next Council meeting is scheduled for Friday, June 13, 2025. Council meetings are open to the public via YouTube livestream. Please contact the College for more information.
